| Jasmine - 48' Junk-rigged Schooner |
|
"Modern classic yacht design" is the philosophy of Kasten Marine, Port Townsend, Washington. And Jasmine, Kasten Marine's first e-motion hybrid yacht is a perfect example. It's a 48'3" junk-rigged schooner that wouldn't look out of place in 19th century Hong Kong. But its hull, spars and free-standing masts are all aluminum, and it's powered by twin-screw, E motion hybrid electric drive.
"Although we can be aesthetically and functionally inspired by vessels of the past," writes Michael Kasten, "we now have an unprecedented chance to make use of what has been more recently learned about new materials and the science of Naval Architecture. And, unlike the working vessels of the past, we can indeed introduce the creature comforts that bring us pleasure."
Now under construction in Nova Scotia, Jasmine is expected to receive her twin E motion hybrid-electric drive in early 2008. |
